Sad fact: People were in such a hurry into the lifeboats that the first ones were lowered into the water while the ship was still moving and without anyone telling the Captain. The bow had lowered to the point where the propellers were half-way above the water so when the ship drove on the lifeboats were caught in the still spinning propellers.
